The Maple Leafs announced on Saturday morning that the team has recalled Jake Muzzin and Trevor Moore from the AHL’s Marlies. Both players had been loaned to the Leafs’ affiliate for conditioning stints following prolonged injuries.
Jake Muzzin has been out of the Leafs lineup since December 27th, a span of 11 games, with a broken bone in his foot and played one game with the Marlies on his conditioning loan. With the Leafs off for 8 days, this was an opportunity for Muzzin to get into a game before returning to the NHL lineup. It was the first time he had played in the AHL since 2012 when he was part of the Los Angeles Kings organization.
Trevor Moore has been battling shoulder and head injuries for most of the season, limiting him to just 22 games with the Leafs so far and just 1 since November 15th. He played 2 games for the Marlies on his conditioning stint, registering a goal and an assist.
Both players look set to return when the Leafs resume play on Monday in Nashville. It remains to be seen but Muzzin will be a welcomed addition to a Leafs blue line that has had to rely heavily on their depth in recent games, likely slotting back in on a pairing with Tyson Barrie while Trevor Moore returns to fourth line duty.
