The Leafs announced Friday morning that the team placed defenseman Cody Ceci on injured reserve and recalled defenseman Timothy Liljegren from the Marlies.
Ceci left the third period of Wednesday’s loss against the Rangers and is reportedly dealing with a high ankle sprain. The Maple Leafs announced that he would be reevaluated in a month but this injury could keep him out upwards of six weeks. Ceci has played 54 games for the Leafs this season, tallying 1 goal and 7 assists.
Timothy Liljegren has bounced between the AHL and NHL in recent weeks but has only gotten into a single game for the Leafs. With injuries mounting on the Toronto blue line, Liljegren will likely get an extended look in regular minutes with the Leafs. He is enjoying a breakout season with the Marlies, registering 5 goals and 24 assists through 38 games in his third professional season.
