After capping a furious Marlies comeback with the OT winner against Belleville on Saturday, it looks like the Leafs’ 2nd round pick from 2016 has earned his first NHL call up. Egor Korshkov will be accompanied by Marlies teammate Mason Marchment when he joins the Leafs in Buffalo on Sunday.
Marchment was with the Leafs earlier this season, suiting up for just 3 games and registering an assist in limited minutes. He has been on fire for the Marlies as of late with 8 goals in his last 5 games and will look to stay hot if he gets back into the NHL lineup.
Korshkov, 23, is in the middle of his first professional season in North America. The 6’4”, 214 pound winger was a favorite of former coach Mike Babcock, lasting on the NHL roster until the final days of training camp.
Through 35 games with the Marlies this season, Korshkov has tallied 14 goals – including 3 in his last 3 games – and 7 assists. His combination of size and speed could be a welcome addition on the Leafs’ fourth line, and he’s shown the ability to provide some offence as well. Look for him to make his NHL debut when the Maple Leafs take on the Sabres on Sunday night.
